Roanoke Valley Green Infrastructure Network

"This site serves as a meeting ground for all people who are interested in the long-term future of the Roanoke Valley, especially as it relates to quality of life, sustainability, and health ? individual, community, and environmental. The organizing principle is green infrastructure (GI). The concept of “green infrastructure” has the potential to serve as a means of integrating the often disparate and fractured efforts of physical planning in cities and counties. Green infrastructure is defined as networks of protected lands that serve ecological functions such as native species habitat while, at the same time, providing ecosystem services, like maintenance of water quality, for the human population. Green infrastructure is the counterpart to “gray” infrastructure like roads and municipal water and wastewater systems." [from website]
