Effects of Urban Forests and their Management on Human Health and Environmental Quality
"The mission of this research unit is to quantify the effects of urban forests and their management of human health and environmental quality. Scientists and technical staff conduct and analyze various field measurements and develop computer programs to better understand the structure, functions, and benefits of urban forests across the world. Numerous user-friendly tools are also being developed to aid local constituents in analyzing the structure, functions, health, and value of their own urban forest resource.
This research unit is part of the Northeastern Research Station of the USDA Forest Service. The unit currently has two field locations. The main office is located on the campus of the State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY.
The second field office is located on the campus of the University of Maryland - Baltimore County in Baltimore, MD. The Baltimore office is part of a Long-Term Ecosystem Research (LTER) project, which is one of only two urban LTER projects in the world."
