Energy Conservation & Urban Forests eXtension Community of Practice (11-DG-11325000-149)

Grant Number
11-DG-11132500-149

The purpose of this project is to develop a national online resource geared toward developers, businesses, communities, planners, homeowners, and the general public focused on the role urban forests play in energy conservation. Studies show that appropriately placed and cared for urban trees and forests improve air quality, increase property values, conserve energy, and promote community development. The general public, businesses, developers, and many communities continue to have little understanding of or access to information related to the role urban trees and forests can play in conserving energy. This internet resource will utilize a nationally recognized and supported electronic delivery system called "eXtension". Extension is a partnership supported by the USDA, land grant universities, and key public and private groups from across the nation. Content will be developed by an Energy Conservation and Urban Forests Community of Practice, and include but are not limited to fact sheets, literature and study synopses in a peer reviewed "Wiki" format, links to tolls and technologies such as CityGreen and i-Tree based systems, live and archived webinars, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), online training, and access to experts within the energy conservation and urban forestry arenas.
