FOREST RESOURCES MANAGER - New York Botanical Garden

The Forest Resources Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a program of education, research, and restoration for a 50-acre old-growth Forest in the heart of The New York Botanical Garden.

The Forest Resources Manager will create and implement management plans that promote the growth and regeneration of native plants and control invasive exotic species in the 50-acre old growth forest at The New York Botanical Garden. He/She will manage staff, contractors and volunteers who will implement the management plans. The Forest Resources Manager will work with Education staff to develop educational programs centered in the Forest. He/She will work with Science staff to inventory the native and naturalized plants, lichens, fungi, and related organisms in the Forest and other natural areas throughout The New York Botanical Garden. The Forest Resources Manager will work in partnership with the Center for Plant Conservation and other organizations to survey and document populations of rare and endangered plants in the Northeastern United States.

Qualifications:

· Minimum 5 years experience in the management of natural area restoration projects, including managing staff and budgets.

· Master’s Degree in Biology, Ecology, Forestry or related field with expertise in the native plants of the Northeastern United States and invasive species of the region.

· Experience with forest mensuration, ecological sampling, and analysis.

· Experience using Geographic Information Systems.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Strong leadership ability.
